John 'Sonny' Stanley MacAulay

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our dear father and grandfather, John MacAulay, on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, at the Alderwood Rest Home in Baddeck.
Born in Sydney Mines on July 29, 1936, he was the son of the late Maurice and Elizabeth Jane (Moore) MacAulay.
John served in the Navy for many years, and was also a coal miner, until he retired. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 008, Sydney Mines. He was also a foster parent, along with his late wife Lorraine, since 1975.
John leaves behind to mourn his four daughters, Laurie (LeBlanc), Christine, Michele and Deanna; his three sons, John, Greg and Johnny, and his son-in-law, Maurice LeBlanc. He also leaves behind his granddaughter, Mikaela and six grandsons, Justin, Adrian, Matthew, Dalton, Darian and Jordan; sisters-in-law, Rose Mary MacAulay, Catherine Cordy and Mary Williams; brother-in-law, Alexander (Roy) Cordy and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his loving wife, Lorraine (Haley) MacAulay; brothers, Bill, Maurice and Bob MacAulay and a sister, Muriel Smith.
According to his wishes, John has been cremated. His family will receive visitors in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, from 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. The burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
