Samuel Sr. Elliott

Born: July 9th, 1934

Passed on: September 13th, 2015

Samuel Elliott Sr. of Port au Choix was born July 9th, 1934 to Gordon and Mae (Bessey) Elliott of Raleigh. He grew up in Raleigh with his sister and seven brothers until he came to Port au Choix looking for the woman of his dreams. He found her and they got married Nov. 30, 1963. They made a home and raised their two sons and two daughters in Port au Choix. He worked at FPI for 36 years, most of them as a watchman where he fed many of his co-workers from the electric frying pan. He was a dedicated family man who provided for his family with kindness and patience and was well respected by many as they considered him “the gentle giant”. He deeply loved a game of cards, especially if he was winning! Through all his sickness he always kept a positive attitude but despite his four year fight against the dreadful disease he passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2015. He is survived by his wife Christine of nearly 52 years; his sons Sam (Jr), and Kevin (Sherry-Lynn); his daughters Melita (Bob), and Mae (Vince); his six grandchildren, Joshua, Allyson, Wyatt, Kaitlin, Skyler and Chayce; sister Vida (Ross); brothers Reginald (Irene), Weldon (Alma), Garland (Pansy), Max (Judy), Winston (Cindy) and Alvin (Yvonne). He was predeceased by his father Gordon, mother Mae, sister Selma and brother Wayne. Visitation was held at the Roman Catholic Church in Port au Choix from where the funeral mass took place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17 with Fr. Raj officiating. Burial followed the service in the Sandy Cove Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.
