Bobby MacDougall

Bobby MacDougall
MacDougall, Robert William "Bobby", 81 passed away peacefully October 3, 2015 at East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash.
Born and raised in Thorburn, Bobby was a son of the late John (Duke) and Barbara "Bar" (MacDonald) MacDougall.
An excellent student, Bobby was a graduate of New Glasgow High School and later St. Francis Xavier University with a Bachelor of Administration with Honours.
Bobby’s long career was spent with Canada Post as a Postal Clerk in Thorburn and New Glasgow, an Auditor with the Canada Post Regional Audit Division, Halifax and Postmaster in Springhill.
Bobby was an accomplished athlete (Hockey, Baseball, Softball and Bowling) and an avid sports fan.
In his early years, he played hockey for New Glasgow High School and Thorburn Mohawks.  He also played baseball with the Thorburn Mohawk Junior Braves.  Bobby’s first love in sports was softball where he excelled for several years as second baseman and outfielder with the Thorburn Mohawks Senior Team, and later as a respected assistant coach of the Thorburn Junior Mohawks, the Maritime Junior Softball Champions from 1963 - 1965.
When not on the ice or the field, Bobby bowled in both the Thorburn and New Glasgow Men’s Leagues.
Throughout his life, Bobby was an avid and informed fan of all sports.  He was a long suffering fan of not only the Toronto Maple Leafs, but also the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays, wherein he regrettably experienced more disappointment than celebration.  However to Bobby, there was always “Next Year”.
As friends and family knew, he spent countless evenings and weekends watching and or reading about his Leafs and Blue Jays.
One of Bobby’s greatest joys in life was his induction into both the Pictou County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame (1999) and the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame (2011) as a coach with the Thorburn Junior Mohawks, members of which remained among his closest friends.
Never married Bobby was both generous and supportive of his extended family.  In later years, he devoted his life to the care and comfort of his Aunts Jennie and Gladys, and especially to his Mom with whom he spent much time discussing "arguing" about Politics, Sports, Family and Life in general.
Bobby was predeceased by his parents, Bar and Duke, brothers John and Donald, sister-in-law Lois, brother-in-law Bud, a nephew Donnie, several aunts and uncles.
Bobby is survived and remembered fondly by his sister Barbara Anne (Wayne) Milligan, Minden, Ontario; his brother Sam (Mildred), Scotsburn; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private person, Bobby has requested that there be no visitation or funeral services, rather a graveside service which will be held at at the Thorburn Cemetery (Marsh Road, Thorburn) where his cremated remains will be laid to rest beside his mother at 2pm Thursday October 8, 2015 with Rev. Jeff Lackie presiding.
Arrangements are under the caring direction of the staff of the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
Donations in memory of Bobby may be made to the Pictou County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame, the MS Society of Canada or to a charity of one’s choice.
