It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David D. Dill on October 5, 2015. He died peacefully in the Hants Community Hospital with his wife by his side. Born on November 3, 1935 in Windsor, he was the son of the late Joseph and Annie (Hayes) Dill. After his school years at Kings College School and Windsor Academy, David enlisted with the RCAF in 1953 at the age of 17. Throughout his military career as an Electrical Avionics Technician, he progressed through the ranks retiring in 1991 as a Chief Warrant Officer after 38 years of service. During his years with the military, he was stationed at various locations throughout Canada and abroad. It was with great pride and dedication that David devoted his life to the military and serving his country. One of his greatest passions was hockey. Not only did he love to play and watch the game but his greatest joy came from behind the bench. For 10 years he coached minor hockey in Greenwood, N.S. and served as Vice President and President of the league. David was also a member of the Nova Scotia Hockey Association and served as Vice President for several years. He loved the great outdoors spending much of his leisure time in the garden, on the river banks fishing or just sitting around an open bon fire with family and friends. In his later years he found pleasure passing the time building jigsaw puzzles and the daily visits with his close friend Fred. But above all, David was a devoted family man; his greatest joy came from quality time spent with his family. He was a man of great integrity and instilled strong family values, respect, love and loyalty in his children by the way he lived his life. He exemplified great personal strength, determination, hard work, and dedication throughout all aspects of his life. David leaves behind his wife of 56 years, the former Marie Sexton, his sons, Ernest, Craig (Sabine); his daughters, Donna (Jack) Enserink, Cathy (Richard) Poole; grandchildren, Catherine (Patrick), Jennifer (Kevin), Jacqueline (John), Elizabeth, Kimberly, Jonathon, Caroline, Victoria, Joe, Adam, Rachel and great-grandson, Jacob; brother, Joseph (Eunice); sisters, Barbara McKay, Ruthie (Thomas) Davis; brother in-law, Alex MacAskill and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Arnold; sisters, Helen MacAskill, Kathleen Boyd, Anne Sheehy; and brother in-laws James McKay, Clarence Boyd and Ellis Sheehy. Visitation was held 6-9pm, Thursday, October 8, 2015 in Lindsay's Funeral Home, 194 King St., Windsor. Funeral service was 2pm Friday, October 9th, in Lindsay's Funeral Home Chapel; Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. A private family burial followed at Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Family flowers only and donations in David's memory were requested to be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association. Online condolences may be sent to: www.lindsaysfuneralhome.com
