Hugh (Bun) Jarvis

Hugh (Bun) Jarvis

JARVIS, HUGH (BUN) - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Hugh (Bun) Jarvis announces his passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Tuesday, October 6, 2015.
Hugh was born to Harold and Minnie (Stuart) Jarvis on October 12, 1929, in Stanley, NB, and spent his early years there. As a young child he was nicknamed “Bun” – it is a mystery where the name originated but it stuck with him throughout his life. On November 24, 1956, Bun made the best decision of his life marrying Margaret Ward.
In addition to Marg, Bun leaves behind his cherished children and son-in-law: Tim Jarvis of Fredericton, Bev Jarvis of Calgary, AB, Nancy Jarvis Kierstead and Wade Kierstead, also of Fredericton. One of Bun’s greatest pleasures in life was his grandchildren, Josh and Jake Morrissey (Bev’s sons) and Gracie, Abby, Erin and Isabel (Nancy and Wade’s daughters).
Bun is survived by sister, Donna Gould of Montreal, QC and her son Matthew Gould; by brother, Royden Jarvis of Sussex, NB and his children Julie Jarvis Corbett and Adam Jarvis; and aunt, Jean Jarvis of Fredericton.
Bun’s lifetime work was based in Fredericton with NB Tel, in various roles, including data technician. He retired in 1992 after approximately 45 years of exceptional service.
Bun, Marg and their family enjoyed summers at Magaguadavic Lake in the company of dear friends and extended family creating many wonderful memories to be treasured always. For years, Bun’s recreation of choice was curling and he was a long time member of the Fredericton Curling Club.
Bun’s ability to fix anything, no handyman job too big or small, endeared him to anyone in need. The beneficiaries of his good deeds (and complimentary story telling) included grateful neighbours and friends.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital for their compassionate and respectful care.
A Memorial Service will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 2:00 pm with reception to follow. Pastor Larry Matthews will officiate, assisted by Rev. H. G. MacKenzie. Any inquiries may be made through McAdam’s Funeral Home in Fredericton (458-9170). Those who wish may consider a donation to the Fredericton
