GRONDIN, DR. J.W. GEORGES
1928 - 2015
Dr. Georges Grondin, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 surrounded by his family at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC. Born on January 12, 1928 in Grand Falls, N.B., he was the son of the late Lawrence and Methaide (LaForest) Grondin.
Georges was a General Surgeon and practiced at the Hôtel-Dieu Hospital and the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital for over 35 years. He was Chief of General Surgery for over 25 years and was vice-chairman of the hospital board of directors for approximately 20 years and Chairman of the Medical Appeals Committee, Province of New Brunswick for over 25 years, retiring from that committee May 2012.
He graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Memramcook with his Bachelor of Science degree in 1949; Laval Medical School in 1953 and subsequent surgical training at three major U.S. teaching facilities in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and New York. Georges was very passionate about his work and felt that his major achievement was working with the politic establishment to see that the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital was built.
He was a multi-talented person who enjoyed playing classical music on his baby grand piano and carving relief creations in wood. He was a champion skeet shooter. Upon his retirement he enjoyed fishing, golf and racing and breeding harness racing horses.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances (Franchi); three children: Jean-Paul (Claire), Joseph (Gwen), and Rosanne (Bruce); four grandchildren: Jennifer, Mitchell, Jacqueline and Alexandre; four great-grandchildren: Kayla, Nikka, Dahlia and Xavier.
He was predeceased by his son George (1996).
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no viewing. A private memorial service and interment for immediate family will be conducted.
In memory of Dr. Grondin, a contribution to the CHU Dumont Foundation (cardiology) would be appreciated.
