It is with much sadness we announce the passing of Vincent Walter Rempel, age 82, at the Cypress Regional Hospital on Sunday, October 4, 2015 with his family at his side. Vincent was born November 7, 1932 in Herbert, SK and was raised on a farm near Neidpath, SK. Upon graduating from High School in 1949 Vincent farmed with his Dad, and in 1956 he accepted employment with Melhoff Electric where he began his apprenticeship as an Electrician. He completed his Journeyman's Certificate while working at a Potash Mine near Saskatoon, SK. When the mine closed, Vincent found employment with Sommerfeld Electric, where he was on call at night and weekends. This gave him the opportunity to pursue his post-secondary education at U of SK. Vincent received a scholarship to attend U of Alberta where he received a teaching designation which qualified him to teach High School technical classes. Vincent began his teaching career in the new Technical School in Prince Albert and taught there for 2 years. He received a National Science Foundation Scholarship to attend the University of Illinois where he received his Honours Degree in Teaching Engineering Technology. He was approached by the U of SK and accepted a position to develop curriculum and teach Industrial Arts Teachers at Kelsey Institute (SIAST). Summers were spent attending U of Illinois and UCLA to pursue a Master's degree. In 1968 Vincent accepted employment at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School as Technical Director, retiring in 1987. He introduced Computers into the High School and served on SK Assoc. for Computer Education to develop a credited High School Computer Science curriculum. Vincent was a U of Regina off-campus Computer Science lecturer in Southwest SK. He returned to full-time farming until he transferred the land to Brian & Ramona. Vincent married the love of his life, Emily, on April 20th, 1956. They were blessed with two daughters, Barbara Lynn and Ramona Joy and three grandchildren, Raquel, Chandra & Brendan. His nephews became "sons" to him. Vincent was a loving, devoted husband and father, always inspiring his family to dream and have courage to attain their highest goals. In his retirement, Vincent enjoyed travel related to his ancestry in Europe, worked tirelessly entering data into a computerized genealogy program, was an avid reader, volunteered for the Mennonite Heritage Committee, attended Jazz & Blues festivals, was interested in languages, especially Plautdeutsch, and was rarely without a crossword puzzle book. Vincent was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Helena (Ensz) Rempel, sister Marion Burke, brothers-in-law Ben Remple, Eugene Thompson, nephew Darrell Remple aunts, uncles and cousins.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Emily, daughters Barbara (Dal Bryant), Ramona (Brian Dyck), grandchildren Raquel (David Dallyn), Chandra (Luke Thiessen), Brendan Dyck,brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence & Myrtle Zacharias, Lillian Thompson, Shirley & Ray Persaud, Aubrey and Beverly Burke, nieces, nephews and cousins. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Friday, October 16, 2015, 2 PM at Zion Mennonite Church, Swift Current, SK conducted by Pastor Herman J. Wiebe. The soloist and song leader was Marcia McLean; pianist Grace Funk; violinist Agnese Vilde; Scriptures by Glen Remple, PowerPoint presentation by Brendan Dyck, and tributes by Vincent's daughters and grandchildren. Ushers were Matt Derksen and Lloyd Thiessen. Honourary pall bearers were his nieces and nephews: Steven Burke, Terry Remple, Glen Remple, Lan Remple, Pamela Klombies, Darren Persaud.
