Michel F. Poirier, Cheticamp, N.S., passed away suddenly on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at the age of 69.
Born in Cheticamp, he was the son of the late Francois and Eugenie (Gaudet) Poirier. Michel had a passionate love for the sea. He was self-employed as a lobster and crab fisherman on his boat, the Mighty Matthew, for many years. There was never a time he passed a dock without stopping to look at the vessels. He enjoyed sailing from North Sydney to Port au Basque on the Newfoundland ferry, especially during the winter months. Michel enjoyed playing and listening to fiddle music, and he was an avid reader. He followed the news daily and enjoyed discussing politics with anyone who would listen. He was a true Liberal supporter to the end.
He is survived by daughter, Michelle, Sydney; sons, Gilles (Shauna), Hammonds Plains; Ryan, Cheticamp; grandchildren, Matthew, Leduc, Alta.; Mark, Hammonds Plains and sister, Gemma Aucoin, Cheticamp.
Cremation has taken place. At Michel's request, there will be no funeral service. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
