Norman James Snook, age 87, of Minto Street, Glace Bay, passed away with his loving family by his side, Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, June 9, 1928, he was the son of the late Israel and Sarah Jane (Pye) Snook, and was a member of the former Epworth United Church and more recently Newsom United Church, both in Glace Bay.
Dad retired from the Sydney Steel Corporation in 1983, after 38 years of service. He remained very active throughout his retirement; especially with the Steelworker’s and Sydney Pensioner’s Club (honorary member); where he was involved with many social activities, mainly as a bingo caller for over 20 years. Dad was an avid bowler, belonging to several leagues in both Glace Bay and Sydney. In his earlier years he also enjoyed time spent ice fishing with his father-in-law, the late Ron Campbell.
Norman will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Gilmour 'Gil' Snook (nee Campbell), Sydney; daughter, Sharon (Brian) Driscoll; grandsons, Sean-Gregory and Lathan Tyler; great-granddaughter Sapphire Cooke; brother Melvin; sister Audrey Oxford, all of Ontario; sister Myrtle Campbell of Glace Bay; and all other family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by brothers Basil, Hughie, Ernest, Leonard and Raymond.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A private family service, officiated by Rev. Donald MacDonald, in a celebration of Dad’s life will be held at a later date.
Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
As an expression of sympathy, donations in Norman's,memory may be made to the Palliative Care Society at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, or a charity of one’s choice.
