FORBES, Bessie Eileen “Betty” – 88, Truro. On Friday evening past, Mum went quietly into the night, surrounded by her family and friends. A fighter until the end, she overcame many setbacks in life and particularly in recent weeks until she slipped away in a vigorous thunder and lightning storm. Always a stylish lady with her extensive wardrobe and weekly hair appointments, Mum was also a very pragmatic person who we counted on to put one foot in front of the other and get the job done. An accomplished baker and homemaker, her favourite times were spent with family and friends, especially the many visits she and Harry made to Cottage Lane in Windsor Junction. She was a long-time member of First United Church. Betty is survived by her son, Gary (Delia) Fleck, Bible Hill; step grandchildren, Sylvia (Bruce) Conrod, Middle Sackville; Corine (David, deceased) Slack, Spryfield; Christian (Amanda) Thompson, Saint John, New Brunswick; brother, Alfred “Buddy” Fielding, Truro; nieces, Valerie (Mark) Thompson, Halifax; Nancy (Andrew) Snooks, Annapolis Royal; nephew, Terry (Vicki-Lynn) Black, Halifax; in-laws, Logan (Elizabeth) Fleck, Jean Chapman (Bob), Halifax; Peter Fleck (Diane), Truro. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Russell Charles Fleck; second husband, Harry Fletcher Forbes; son, Barry Fleck; sister, Shirley (Laurie) Black. Many thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Cedarstone Enhanced Care (Purdy Lane) and to Judy and Sandra of the volunteer Palliative Care Committee who made Mum’s passing so much easier to endure. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2015, Reverend Valerie Kingsbury officiating. Reception will follow. Interment in Old Barns Cemetery, across from 2432 Highway 236, Beaver Brook. If so desired, donations in Betty’s memory to a charity of choice are welcomed.
