Denny, Albert Wilfred, 77 of Cemetary Road, Pictou Landing First Nation passed away October 18, 2015 at his home.
Born in Pictou Landing he was a son of the late Michael and Martha(Martin)Denny.
He was a resident of Pictou Landing for most of his life where he served as a councillor from 1959-1961 and chief from 1973-1975; 1983-1985; and 1995-2001. He served with the United States Army for 4 years during the 1960’s, having been stationed in Vietnam and Germany. He was a past employee of the former Hawker Siddeley Rail Car Plant in Trenton, as well as a former board member of the Union of Nova Scotia Indians.
He was also a Residential School Survivor, and received the Queen Jubilee Medal in 2002.
He is survived by his children, Peter(Leslie)Denny, Pictou Landing; Jennifer(Ron)Knockwood, Enfield; Sheila(Barry)Francis, Pictou Landing; Colleen Denny, Pictou Landing; Albert(Autta)Denny, Pictou Landing; Dominic(Michelle)Denny, Pictou Landing; 28 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; brothers Frank J. Denny, Pictou Landing; and Olding Murray, Chance Harbour.
He was predeceased by a daughter Paula Lee, brothers Gordon and Greg and chosen brother Albert Martin.
His remains will rest at his late residence at 210 Cemetary Road, Pictou Landing First Nation after 7pm Tuesday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am Thursday from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing First Nation with Father Gary MacPherson presiding.
Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Albert may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Pictou County Food Bank.
