Sister Marguerite Bastarache, ndsc, in religion Sr. Marie-de-Chantal, of Maison-mère des Religieuses Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Coeur, Moncton, passed away following a lengthy illness on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the convent where she resided. She was 100 and in her 79th year of her religious life. Born May 21, 1915 in Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, she was the daughter of the late Amédée and Marguerite (Dallaire) Bastarache.
Besides her religious family, she is survived by three step-sisters: Corinne Melanson (Irois) of Cocagne, Roséline Léger (Aurèle) of Dieppe and Bernice Melanson (Vincent) of Lancaster, MA; one step-brother, Jean-Paul Bastarache (Anita) of Sainte-Marie-de-Kent; two brothers-in-law: Aldéric Robichaud and Ariste LeBlanc, both of Saint-Antoine; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by three step-sisters: Huberte, Thérèse and Adrienne; as well as one step-brother, Hervé.
Sister Bastarache will be resting at the Notre-Dame-d’Acadie Pavilion of the Maison-mère convent at 125 King Street, Moncton (Godfrey Lane entrance). Visiting hours Thursday, October 22 from 2 to 9 pm, and Friday from 9 am. Solemn vespers will be held Thursday evening at 7 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated in their chapel on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 10 am. Interment will be in Memramcook.
