Maxine Thornton

THORNTON, MAXINE EDNA
Maxine E. Thornton of Nackawic, NB passed away peacefully on October 22, 2015 at Upper River Valley Hospital. Maxine was born in 1927 at Woodstock, NB, a daughter of the late Thorvald Hans and Dora Leonel (Rideout) Neilson.
A part-time Postal Assistant with Canada Post until 1992, she was involved in many community activities. Maxine was a Life member of The Kirk United Church, New Brunswick Women’s Institute, ACWW (Associated Country Women of the World), Past Matron of Victoria Chapter #1 Order of Eastern Star, Woodstock, NB and Past Grand Representative of Texas in New Brunswick O.E.S.
For many years, she was a member of The Kirk Choir and a Trustee Committee member as secretary. She also served on the Nackawic Community Days Committee and was a Charter member of the Nackawic Camera Club and Nackawic X-Country Ski Club. In 2001, she was the recipient of the International Year of the Volunteer Award.
Maxine is survived by her children, Bonnie Connors (Bob), Nackawic, NB and Dana Thornton (Anne), Waterville, NB; a daughter-in-law, Linda Thornton, Fredericton, NB; eight grandchildren, Todd Thornton (Sheena), Cory Thornton (Jocelyn), Ryan Thornton (Shannon), Chad Connors (Lori), David Connors (Floyd), Marcy Connors (Troy), Peter Thornton and Paul Thornton (Emily); nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Neil Neilson; two sisters, Lois Neilson and Camilla Billingsley (Tom); a sister-in-law, Juanita Cronkhite (Allen); several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Paul Thornton and a son, Jimmy Thornton.
Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Tuesday evening, October 27, 2015 from 7 to 9 pm. An Easter Star service will be held at the funeral home at 6:45 pm. Funeral service will be held from the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 2 pm with Rev. Jennifer Brown officiating. Private interment at Otis Cemetery. A reception will follow in the funeral home dining room.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
