It is with sadness that we announce the passing of John Louis MacDonald, 75, of New Waterford on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with his family by his side.
Born in Inverness, he was a son of the late Angus and Mary (MacDonald) MacDonald, both of Inverness.
John later moved to New Waterford and worked for Albert LeDrew as a truck driver. At a young age he moved to Detroit, Michigan and was employed with Clawson Concrete for 35 years. Louie then moved back to his beloved Cape Breton where he enjoyed square dancing, walking the Loop, Scottish story-telling and listening to the fiddle and bagpipes.
He is survived by his companion, Joyce Keigan and his children, Martina Lindstrom, Kay MacDonald, John (Lisa) MacDonald, Russell MacDonald (Stacy Ruddy), all of Michigan; brother, Albert MacDonald, New Waterford; sisters Harriet MacDonald, Hazel (Louie) Syms, both of New Waterford, Agnes MacDonald (Tim Boudreau), Petit-de-Grat; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by a daughter, Ann Margaret Santos; sisters, Ann Bezenar, Catherine MacDonald and Sandra Leudy; brothers, John 'Jackie' MacDonald and Archie MacDonald.
Visitation will be held Monday, Oct. 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for John will take place Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, New Victoria, with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's Parish Hall on Convent Street, New Waterford.
