Saint Anne, Glou. Co, NB - It is with great sadness that the family announce the death of Byron Brown, husband of Mona (Groom) (DeGrace) Brown, of Saint Anne's, Glou. Co., NB, which occurred at his residence on Thursday October 22, 2015, five weeks short of his 80th birthday, after a long an courageous battle with cancer. Born in Fredericton, he was the son of the late Donald W. and Jean Marguerite (Laurie) Brown.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Ronnie (Cheryle) of Fredericton; two daughters, Susan Graham (Andy) and Vicky Stewart both of Fredericton. He is also survived by his first wife, Hazel, the mother of his children, grandchildren; Chelsey, Jordan, Candice, Lindsay, Shannon, Jill, Nick and great-grandchildren; Kane, Charlotte and Jayden, five brothers; Laurie (Thelma) of Rothesay, Neil (Donna) of Ottawa, ON, Paul (Linda) of Moncton, Lyle of Fredericton and Danny (Helen) of Hanwell Road, two sisters; Veeta Pert (Donald) of Fredericton and Patricia Ann Campbell (Gordon) of Hainesville and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Ned.
Byron made his home in Bathurst 15 years ago with his wife Mona, making many new friends. He was an avid sportsman and was well known in and around the Fredericton area. In 1991, Byron was a founding member of the Fredericton Sports Investment Group, which launched the Fredericton Sports Wall of Fame. He was one of the several local athletic heroes enshrined in the 15th Annual Induction Ceremony as a builder. He earned the NB Amateur Hockey Association "Order of Hockey Fellowship" in 1979-80 and the FYHA Award of Distinction for his long and distinguished service to the sport in 1989.
There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow at Greenwood Baptist Church on Greenwood Drive in Barkers Point in Fredericton.
Donations in memory of Byron may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
