Thomas 'Tom' Long

We regret to announce the passing of Thomas James 'Tom' Long of Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines, formerly, Bras d’Or, on Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born on March 11, 1929, he was a son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Phalen) Long.
Until retirement, Tom was employed at the HP Nickerson & Sons Fish Plant in North Sydney and was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Bras D’or.
Tom is survived by his sister, Eileen (David) Lyle, Bras d’Or; brother, Frank, Sydney Mines; special great-nephew, Craig Bates; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Leona (Lloyd) MacLeod; brother, Russell (Catherine); sister-in-law, Rose Long.
The family would like to thank Dr. Doug Kholsmith and the nursing staff at Miners Memorial Manor for the excellent care and compassion provided to Tom.
There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d'Or on Saturday 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Peter MacLeod officiating. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
