Katherine Fitch

FITCH, KATHERINE LOIS
September 20, 1922 - October 22, 2015
On Thursday, October 22nd, our mother, Katherine (Kay) departed her life quietly and peacefully after 93 years.
She was born in Sackville, New Brunswick and in 1941 she married a gunnery instructor named Morley Wilkinson. During the war years they lived throughout the west. Their son Robert "Bob" was born in Regina in 1943. After Morley died in 1946, Kay and Bob moved back to Moncton. A few years later, Kay met Clyde Fitch at the Moncton Badminton Club and they married in 1950. In 1952 Judith (Judy) was born. Three years later the family moved to Fredericton and in 1956 Pamela (Pam) was born. Kay dedicated her life to community, service and citizenship. She was particularly devoted to the IODE and Girl Guides, holding many positions of responsibility and leadership.
Although she and Clyde lived in Ottawa for a short time in the 70’s, she remained a proud Maritimer. When Clyde finished his work as a civil servant, they retired to Fredericton. Eventually health issues brought Kay and Clyde to Ontario so that they could be closer their children. In 2003 they were one of the first couples to move into Park Place Retirement Residence.
Predeceased by Clyde in 2007, Kay is survived by her brother, Malcolm Atkinson; children, Bob Wilkinson (Lynne), Judy Aranoff (Michael) and Pam Fitch (Carryl Potter); grandchildren, David Wilkinson (Kerri), Lisa Yaromich (Peter), Jeremy and Lindsay Aranoff; great-grandchildren, Hazel and James Yaromich and Connor and Rachel Wilkinson and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Saturday, October 31st, 2015, at 1:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to IODE Canada or to the Girl Guides of Canada through www.canadahelps.org.
