It is with great sadness that the family of the late Wayne Hollett of Burin announces his passing at the Health Science Center, St. John's on Monday October 26th, 2015 at the age of 83 years.
Wayne was born in Burin in 1932, the son of the late Gordon and Minnie Hollett. Known in his hometown as the" historian of Burin" he loved his town and helped immensely to preserve its history and traditional way of life. Over the years he helped hundreds of people from all across Canada & U.S. in the field of genealogy to trace the origins of their ancestors.
Wayne was a sports enthusiast and loved and remained faithful to the Toronto Maple Leafs . He was active in all sports in his early years, and was inducted to the Burin Peninsula Soccer Hall of Fame. He was the husband of Stella, his best friend, loving father to his sons Craig and Terry. A proud grandfather of Amanda and Stefanie and a very proud great-grandfather of Axel and Sawyer. Wayne will be remembered by one and all as a gentle and caring man, a wonderful husband and father and a friend to everyone.
Leaving to mourn wife Stella of Burin; sons Terry (Betty) of Gander, Craig (Joan) of St. John's; grandchildren Amanda (Jordan) Broderick of Gander, Stefanie (Garrett) of Halifax; great-grandchildren Axel and Sawyer Broderick; sister Yvonne Burke (Ed) of Gander, brother Boyd Hollett Witness Bay; brother-in-law Lew and Helena Fizzard of St. John's; sister-in-law Greta (Harry) Tarrant of CBS; dear friends Alan Moulton (Noreen) of Marystown, Tony Kelly (Sharon) Marystown plus a wide circle of other family and friends.
Predeceased by parents Gordon and Minnie Hollett, sister Pauline.
Rev. Simon Muwowo officiated Funeral service from Zion United Church, Collins Cove on Thursday, October 29, 2015 with interment following at Zion United Cemetery, Collins Cove.
Pall Bearers were Craig Hollett, Alan Moulton, Bill Kelly, Ralph Mayo, Merle Darby, Damien Dibbon.
