MacNAUGHTON, Alistair Fraser “Al” - age 73, of Aylesford, Kings Co., passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 23, 2015 at Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville of Parkinson's related complications. Al was born and raised in Goshen, NS and was the only son of the late Robert and Bertha MacNaughton. He was the beloved husband of Lynn (Thomas) MacNaughton. Their special relationship was truly a model of love and companionship. Al graduated from Nova Scotia Normal College and St. Francis Xavier University, celebrating 50 years as an alumnus just two weeks ago. He taught in Goshen, then at St. Mary's Elementary School in Aylesford for 33 years. Al was a favorite teacher of numerous students, including his own children. He was extremely community-minded, volunteering for over 50 years with the Aylesford United Church and was very proud of being the first baby Lion of the Aylesford & District Lions Club. Al also delivered Meals on Wheels for over 20 years. His quick wit and dedication to his family, work, and volunteer commitments will be remembered by his many friends in the Valley and beyond. Al loved sports, and was a long-time member of both the Berwick Curling Club and Paragon Golf and Country Club. He was also a dedicated Montreal Canadiens and Los Angeles Dodger fan and he was delighted that his final vote helped his favorite "red" team sweep the country. Al and Lynn enjoyed many winters in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida. He is survived by his wife, Lynn; his daughters, Sheina, (Dan Swinemar) and Maura (Lorne Timmons) of Sackville; and his son, Allan (Dawn Wheeler) of Surrey, BC; grandchildren, Emma and Kate Timmons, Sam and Jake Swinemar, and Ava and Kara MacNaughton; sisters, Elizabeth MacDonald, Guysborough and Jeanie Johnson, St. Thomas, Ont.; brother-in-law, Dick (Diane) Thomas St. Catharines, Ont.; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his parents-in-law, Richard and Evelyn Thomas; and brothers-in-law, Stanley MacDonald and Al Johnson. Visitation was held at Aylesford United Church, 2414 Hwy No.1, Aylesford, on Sunday, October 25th, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service and reception took place at Aylesford United Church on Monday, October 26th at 2 p.m., Rev. Brenda McKay officiated, with Interment in the Aylesford Union Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to Parkinson Society Maritime Region, Aylesford United Church, Aylesford & District Lions Club or the Victorian Order of Nurses, Annapolis Valley Branch.
