Cecil Fjeld
February 16, 1925 – October 27, 2015
The family of Cecil Fjeld, late of Prince Albert, SK, formerly of Birch Hills, SK, is saddened to announce his passing on Tuesday, October 27th, 2015, in Prince Albert, SK. Dad passed away shortly after midnight on what was he and Mom's 65th Wedding Anniversary. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Bernice, and his three children: Valerie (Clarence) Buckoski of Candle Lake, SK, Murray (Patty) Fjeld of St. Albert, AB, and Shelley (David) Gorsalitz of Saskatoon, SK; Beloved Poppa to Tim Buckoski; Heather (Scott) Scott, Hayley, Aimee and Sophia; Taryn Fjeld (Kelly Bechard); Robyn (Michael) Lourens, Elias, Tylar and Samuel; Mark Fjeld (Jessie Long); Kaitlyn, Matthew and Megan Gorsalitz. He is also survived by his brother Allan, his sisters- and brothers-in-law: Julia Fjeld, Evelyn Fjeld, Ruth and Jim Dodds, Ilene Hoiland, Lois Hoiland, Art and June Hoiland, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Cecil was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Elda Fjeld, his brothers and sisters: Albert (Nellie), Edwin (Velma), Art (Marj), Andrew, Norman, Ida (Robert) Brown and Ruth (Einar) Rude; and brothers-in- law: Peder Hoiland and Irvin Hoiland. Dad was born on February 16, 1925 on the family farm in the Winton district north of Birch Hills. His childhood and youth was spent working hard on the farm cutting crops with horse and binder, stooking, and caring for farm animals, but there were lots of fun times with his brothers and neighbours swimming in the river, fishing, and playing shinny on outdoor rinks. He attended the country school at Winton, but like so many of that era, left school early in his teen years to help on the farm. On October 27, 1950 he married Bernice Hoiland and they began their life together on the farm that Dad had begun clearing in 1944. They raised three children and lived on that farm for 45 years. Farming was Dad's lifeblood and even after leaving the farm in 1995, he would often drive out to the country at harvest time and watch the combines in action. He was even able to participate at times by lending a hand to neighbours. Dad enjoyed his annual fall hunting trips, as well as other camping and fishing trips with friends. The cabin at Candle Lake, which was built as a hunting cabin back in 1963, has become a treasured vacation destination for all four generations of our family. In 1995, Mom and Dad sold the family farm and moved into Birch Hills, where they resided until 2011 when they moved to Prince Albert. Being a very social person, Dad enjoyed the opportunity to meet new neighbours and make friends with all he met. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Craig Elmer, and the wonderful nursing staff on Level 5 at the Victoria Union Hospital, for their loving and tender care. Please join us in person or in spirit to celebrate his life on Monday, November 2nd, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Birch Hills Lutheran Church, 428 Bellamy Avenue, Birch Hills, SK. Interment of cremated remains at Winton Cemetery to follow.
