DONNA WHITE
It is with great sadness that the family of Donna White, beloved wife of Larry White, announces her passing on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at the age of 70 years. She had a tough but courageous battle with cancer for the past nine months. In the end the odds were too great for her to overcome. Donna was born on Thursday, October 18, 1945, raised and schooled in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. In 1964, she married Larry White at Swift Current. This union was blessed with three children. The family lived in various communities including Watson, Yorkton, Weyburn and for the past thirty years in Prince Albert. Donna was predeceased by her grandparents, her father and mother Don and Freda Shaner of Swift Current, her brother Alvin Shaner of Melfort, and her father-in-law Bernie White of Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. Donna is survived by Larry, her husband of 51 years, her two sons Kevin (Erica) White, her grandchildren Branden and Brianna of Saskatoon and Dennis (Hazel) White, her grandchildren Sarah and Carson of Whitby, Ontario, and one daughter Cindy (Brad) Antonson, her grandchildren Brooklyn and Bryn of Prince Albert. The six grandchildren were very special to her. She is also survived by her brother Gordon (Kay) Shaner of Swift Current, her sister-in-law Carol Shaner of Melfort, her mother-in-law Marjorie White of Foam Lake, her brothers-in-law Bernie White (Sharon) of Saskatoon and Ron White (Denise) of Kindersley, her sister-in-laws Jean Figursky of Saskatoon and Elaine Smith (Ernie) of Foam Lake, Saskatchewan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who were fond of their Auntie. Donna was a warm, caring person of great character, with a sense of humour, who had an unfailing love and commitment to her family. She was there to always help out, often at the expense of her own interests. Her family came first. Donna loved to read, although her other real passion was music and dance. She seldom passed up a chance to attend a musical show. After marriage she decided to teach organ out of the home. In all she taught a few hundred children to play the organ in the various communities where the family lived. While she did not have formal teacher education, she had a natural gift for teaching young people. She had the patience and the students really responded to her. She also loved to dance and was excellent at it. She could dance to any music as long as it had 'a good beat'. If her husband Larry did not know a particular dance step she would say come 'just follow me'. Donna also enjoyed to see something new and different, enjoying numerous trips within Canada, the U.S., Mexico, Hawaii, Italy and Greece. A year ago Larry and Donna visited the homes of forefathers in Germany and Northern Ireland. Donna also enjoyed her close relationships with her friends in the Top Hat Lions and Splurge groups. The friendship and support they provided to her over the years and especially in the last few months was greatly appreciated. She valued these friendships. She also enjoyed the volunteer work she did when a member of the Lions Club, including Meals on Wheels, and Mr. and Mrs. Winter Festival. She was there to help whenever she could. The family would like to thank the many family and friends who have offer their prayers, support and encouragement over the years and in particular the past few months. They would also like to thank Dr. Halyk, the staff of the Saskatoon Cancer Centre, the staff in the chemotherapy unit at the Victoria Hospital and the nursing staff on the 5th floor. The care they provided was excellent, very competent, caring and compassionate. At Donna's request there will be no funeral service. There will be a memorial social for family and friends at River Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, persons wishing to make a donation on behalf of Donna can do so to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, 200-4545 Parliament Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan, S4W 0G3, or a charity of their choice.
