On Oct. 31, 2015, Alice McLachlan passed away peacefully, at home, at the age of 99.
She was born in Glace Bay on Oct. 23, 1916, the eldest daughter of John and Louise Leforte.
Alice was the wife of a coal miner, Tom McLachlan, and the daughter-in-law of J.B. McLachlan; a union woman in a labour family.
Alice cherished her three children, Tom Jr. (Bernadette), Diane (Dave) and Manning (Arlene); her nine grandchildren, Vikram, Shalon, Mary, Bryson, Diane, Matthew, Aleisha, Jean and Brittany; as well as her three great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Thomas and Sean Thomas.
Alice was predeceased by her husband, Tom and siblings, John, Edward, Joseph, Louise, Angus, Paul, Frank, George, Marguerite and Roland.
She is survived by her sister, Theresa; brother, Charles and many nieces and nephews.
Alice had a love of gardening as a result of growing up on the Leforte farm and her early married life on the McLachlan farm.
Visitation for Alice will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015 from 12-2 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service to take place at 2 p.m. in Patten Chapel with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating.
The family would like to thank Dr. James MacLean for his care and house calls and the VON nurses for their care and comfort. A special thanks to her caregiver and special sister, Theresa McKinnon.
