It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Florence Johnston, on Oct. 31, 2015 at the Miner’s Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late John and Nelda MacKinnon. Florence was a member of the Sydney Mines Legion and the Sydney Mines Seniors and Pensioners' Club. Florence was employed as a custodian at Memorial High School for several years.
Florence is survived by daughter, Marie (Robert MacQueen), Sydney Mines; sons, Ian (Sherri), Springhill, Michael (Paula), North Sydney, Lloyd (Joanne), Sydney Mines, Leroy (Terasa) Brampton, Ont.; brothers, Andrew MacKinnon and Francis MacKinnon; 17 grandchildren, Kevin, Robin, Brian, Jason, Natasha, Caitlin, Matthew, Joshua, Lloyd, Chad, Joanna, David, Brittany, Trista, Chance, Madisen, Farron as well as many great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Leory; son, Roy Johnston; daughter in infancy, Arthena; grandson, Troy Johnston, Kevin (in infancy); brother, Archie MacKinnon; sister, Jimima Campbell, Madonna Coleski, Jean Cantwell, Margaret O’Neil, Johnena Moore and Ann Rita Morrison.
A special thank you to the staff of the Miner’s Memorial Manor for their care and compassion over the years.
There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015 at Holy Family Parish with Fr. J.J. MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home.
