E. Harvey MacPherson

Born In: Sydney

Passed on: November 1st, 2015

With broken hearts, we regret to announce the passing of E. Harvey MacPherson on Nov. 1, 2015.
Born in Sydney in 1929, he was the son of the late Emerson and Sadie MacPherson.
A kind and gentle spirit, Harvey was adventurous and a friend to all, young and old. He had a full and robust life with strong connections to his family roots in Fourchu, N.S. Harvey spent five years in the navy exploring the world before returning home to Cape Breton. He worked at LeVatte’s Construction for over 40 years and took great pride in his lawn and gardens at Lakeview Cabins. Harvey was a witty storyteller who easily entertained everyone with tales of his childhood escapades, days in the navy, and life at the cabins. An avid fan of Cape Breton music and hockey, Harvey could be found alongside his brother, Ian toe tapping to fiddle music at concerts and cheering for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna (MacKillop) and his children, George (Delores), Sussex, N.B., Alison, Stellarton and Kenzie (Jo-Anne), Redlands, Calif.; grandchildren, Owen, Katie, Kaylee and Kyle. He leaves behind his brother, Owen (Hilda); sister-in-law, Isabel, many nieces and nephews and was recently predeceased by his brother, Ian. Much gratitude to Gordie MacDougall for his steadfast support over the years and for whom Harvey regarded as another son.
We cannot adequately express our gratitude for the love, tenderness and companionship shown by all his friends and home care workers, who brightened his days with care and conversation.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel, 49 Welton St., Sydney, on Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the United Protestant Church of Sydney River at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5th, with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the United Protestant Church of Sydney River or the VON Adult Day Program, 336 Kings Rd., Suite 117, Sydney, N.S.
