It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Elsie Marjorie Dean, age 89, on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015 at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Otter’s Point, Nfld., on July 5, 1926, she was the daughter of the late James and Harriet (Collier) Courtney. Elsie was employed for many years with the dietary staff of the Sydney City Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
She is survived by her three daughters, Thelma (James) Francis, Sydney Mines, Donna (David) Krasowski, Southside Boularderie, Linda (Peter) Johnston, Calgary and her son, Jim (Audrey) Dean, Sydney; her 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are her two sisters, Shirley Gushue, Newfoundland and Alma Fisher, Moncton and nieces and nephews.
Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Dean in 1994; her son, Frank in 2011; her brothers, Roy, Sam, Jim and her sisters, Nina, Effie, Blanche and Mildred.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stephanie Langley and the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home for the compassion and care shown to Mom over the past number of years.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney with Rev. Julio Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens in Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
