1931 - 2015
Ivan J. Whalen, It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ivan Whalen which occurred at The Dr. Georges-L. Dumont University Hospital on November 7, 2015 at the age of 83. Born in Gaspé, Quebec, he was the son of the late Chysologue and Célina (Trudel) Whalen.
Ivan was a Veteran of the The Canadian Armed Forces with 28 years of service. During that time he served two tours in Germany. After he retired from the Army, he owned and operated his own Auto Body Shop. In 1997 he retired from the Saint John Harbour Bridge Authority. Ivan had a love for sports cars, he also loved the outdoors. In his younger years, he was an avid down hill and cross country skier as well as loving hockey and camping.
Ivan is survived by his loving wife Marion, daughters, Barbara (Mike) Whalen Golaneck, Michele (Jeff) Whalen Hadden; stepdaughters, Kimberley (Barb) Waddell, Brenda Waddell (Maurice Comeau), Stacie Brideau (Brian King); brother, George Whalen; sister, Kathleen (Henry) Rail; grandchildren, Marcel, Michel André, Steven, Amanda, Jessica, Chantal, Daniel and André; great-grandchildren, Vincent, Samuel, Hailey-Jo, and Savannah as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Ivan was predeceased by his brother Eric and sister Elizabeth.
A Service to Celebrate Ivan’s Life will be held in the chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 3:00pm with Visitation from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Interment will be in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses of 3A and The Paliative Care Unit at the George Dumont Hospital for the kindness and compassion shown to Ivan.
As your expression of sympathy memorial donations to The Alzheimers Society would be appreciated by the family.
