John "Jack" Thompson
Glencoe, Pictou Co.- John Milton (Jack) Thompson, age 81, passed away on Saturday, November 7th, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born December 21, 1933 at the family homestead in Glencoe, Jack was the youngest child of the late Archibald and Sadie Thompson.
Jack spent his early years working on the family farm and working with his brothers in the lumbering business.
He moved west in the early seventies where he worked in mining and construction industry for over 20 years. He returned and worked with his brother Grant and nephew Roy in the logging business and blueberry farm.
One of Jack’s greatest pleasures was the spring ritual of producing maple syrup, later the blueberry harvest and then the woodpile.
Right up to the time Jack went to the hospital he was busy doing projects in the barn and trying to keep the annual fall leaf foliage at bay.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church.
Jack is survived by sisters Violet Roy and Marguerite Campbell, many cousins and many generations of nieces and nephews, including special great grand niece and nephew, Noel and Owen.
Jack was predeceased by his parents and brothers James (Alice), Hattie (Christine), Grant (Anna Mae), Wallace, Lawrence (Margaret), brothers-in-law,Thomas Roy and Lloyd Campbell.
His remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home for visitation from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11th, 2015.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. from St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, St. Paul’s Pictou Co. with Rev. Gail Johnson - Murdock officiating.
Burial will be in the Bridgeville Cemetery.
Family flowers only please.
Donations in memory of Jack may be made to the Sadie and Archie Thompson Memorial Fund, St. Paul’s Church, Ian’s Walk for End of Life Care, Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or to the S.P.C.A.
