With heartfelt sadness we announce the sudden passing of our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, companion, brother and uncle, Louis Cox, age 84, on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015 at his home.
Born in North Sydney, on April 27, 1931, he was the son of the late Richard and Martha (Confiant) Cox. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. Louis was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic for many years until his retirement. He loved music and enjoyed playing and performing on his harmonica. He loved spending time with family, especially his sons, his grandchildren and great-grandson.
He is survived by his two sons, Tracy (Laurie) Cox, Calgary and David (Jennifer) Cox, Ottawa; his four grandchildren, Justin, Amanda, Jaelyn, Brenan and great-grandson, Marek. He will be lovingly missed by his companion, Shirley Robinson, North Sydney and brothers, David (Nellie) Cox, John Cox, Harold (Jane) Cox, all of North Sydney, Michael Cox, Massachusetts, Clifford (Cathy), Fort McMurray and one sister, Marion McKinnon, Sydney, also many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Thelma (Curtis) Cox; his brother, Robert Cox and sisters, Ella MacKinnon, Caroline Holyoke and Irene Neil.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass for Louis will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
