Born In: Glace Bay

Passed in: New Waterford
Passed on: November 8th, 2015

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Theresa Geraldine Bailey, 81, at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. God called home our loving, vibrant mother Nov. 8, 2015, while surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Glace Bay, Theresa was the daughter of the late Helen Edna (Young) and Robert Hayward Bradbury. Theresa was a dedicated wife to her husband Jack of 59 years and a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Theresa had a deep faith and strong religious belief.
As a young girl, Theresa lived on Reserve Street and attended St. Anne's School, Glace Bay. She loved skating in the Marsh and spent many enjoyable days walking in the fields off Reserve Street, picking berries while spending time with her brothers and sisters. In earlier years, Theresa also enjoyed playing the piano. Most of all, she had a deep love for her grandkids and always made sure there were treats in the house. She couldn't go to get groceries without getting them ice cream and chocolate milk.
As a young bride, Theresa chose her job to be a stay at home mom providing a caring and loving home for her family. Theresa loved her children very deeply and often talked about the happy times and memories of the children growing up.
She is survived by daughters, Karen (Allen) McNeil, Kimberley (Morgan) MacPherson, Darlene Bailey, Hughena Bailey, Jean (Melvin) Cousins; sons, Gabriel Bailey and Joe (Annie) Bailey. She is also survived by grandchildren, Jay, Crystal, Ryan, Christopher, Adam, Ariel, Candy, Lindsey, Bianca, Blake, Chase, Trey and especially her pride and Joy, Brooklyn and Jack McNeil, who most times called her 'Ma'; nine great-grandchildren.
Theresa will be sadly missed by her sisters, Shirley, Carol, Beverly, Helen Marie, Joyce and Maria.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jack; daughter, Starlette; brothers, Joseph, Adrian, Raymond and Patrick.
Karen and Theresa spent many happy days going for drives and shopping which was Theresa's favourite pastime.
Visitation for our mother will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Theresa will take place Thursday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anne's cemetery where she will be laid to rest with our dad, Jack Bailey.
Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
"Mom, you were more than a mother to me, you were my best friend. Mom, may God cradle you in his arms and keep you safe.
Your loving daughter,
Karen."
