George Laffin
New Glasgow - George Seldon Laffin, of New Glasgow, formerly of Trenton, passed away Monday, November 9, 2015 at the age of 87.
Born in South Maitland, Hants Co., he was a son of the late John and Jessie (Gates) Laffin.
George spent most of his life in Trenton where he was very active in community affairs.
He was a kind and generous man, whose family came first. George was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church and a former member of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Trenton, where in younger years he was involved in church affairs.
He also served on the executive of Local 1231, United Steelworkers of America. His working years were spent at Eastern Woodworkers and Hawker Siddeley from where he retired. He was a former member of Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29, Trenton.
He is survived by his wife Edna; daughter, Debbie Laffin, Trenton; sons: Bruce (Mary), Abercrombie; David (Lisa), Stellarton; grandchildren: Jennifer (James) Feltmate, Pictou Landing; Jillian Laffin (Sheldon), Pictou Landing; Amanda Laffin, New Glasgow; Justin Barnett, Trenton; 5 great grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; sister, Anne; step son, Kim Cameron (Maureen), Stellarton; step daughters: Joan Cameron (Gerry), Trenton; Ann Marie Ross, Lower Sackville; Bernadette Morrison (Kenny), Pictou; Karen Greencorn (Charles), New Glasgow.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Mildred Cameron; son, Robert “Bob”; sisters: Patricia and Winnifred; brothers: John, Steve, Jim, Raymond, Alvin, Charlie, Lou and Stanley in infancy.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Thursday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
Funeral mass 11 am Friday in Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, with Father Tom MacNeil officiating.
Burial will be in Christ the King Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation.
