Cornelius Reddekopp

Passed on: November 3rd, 2015

Cornelius Ernest Reddekopp, 63, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at the Swift Current Care Centre following a battle with cancer. Cornie was born on January 17, 1952 in the Swift Current Hospital to Andrew & Susie Reddekopp and raised in Rosenhof, just south east of Swift Current. In his younger years he enjoyed playing with his 9 brothers and sisters, especially if it involved building something out of wood. Cornie helped his parents on the homestead and enjoyed time with many other members of his extended family. His teen years were spent in Swift Current and area dreaming of cars, hockey, and maybe a girl or two. Cornie married Sadie Elaine Heinrichs on Oct 2, 1971 at the Swift Current Alliance Church. They enjoyed a few quiet years before their first child, Sheldon Eugene, was born on July 15, 1975. A year and a half later, Amy Grace was born on January 1, 1977. He and Sadie were baptised in the Alliance Church on April 23, 1978. Cornie maintained skill and inclination towards the trades through his training at SIAST in Moose Jaw and became a Journeyman Carpenter. In the early 1980s he spent time doing construction trade, when the building boom slowed down he went back to SIAST to be trained for building maintenance. Cornie spent the remainder of his working career with the Saskatchewan Property Management Corporation, maintaining government buildings in Swift Current, where he made many friends and went above and beyond as a civil servant. He also went above and beyond as a husband and father. By working additional evening and weekend jobs through his kid’s teen years, he carried his family through many of life’s challenges. He worked hard, and he was known to play hard too — he was a competitive guy, one that enjoyed winning and sometimes had a tough time losing. His love of fast pitch, hockey, card games, knipstash, football, and sports in general was shared with friends and family. He cheered on the Montreal Canadiens and Saskatchewan Roughriders with passion, and could often clearly see some much better strategies and tactics than the coaches of those teams employed. Cornie always gave. He gave to his church, to his family, his friends and to the community. He is greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Cornie was predeceased by his wife, Sadie (Heinrichs) Reddekopp; his sisters Mary Fehr and Annie Wall; and by his brother, Willie Reddekopp. Cornie will be lovingly remembered by his two children and their families; Sheldon & Rachelle (Emma and Bremyn); Amy Grant (Kadyn and Declan); and his siblings, Susan Neustaeter, John Reddekopp, Helena Sartison, Elsie Fehr, Bernice Geortzen, and Barb Quiring; and by all of their families. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Community Baptist Church in Swift Current, SK with Pastor Joell Haugan officiating. The pianist for the service was Loreen Wiebe, “How Great the Father’s Love” and “Just As I Am” were sung by the congregation. Amy Grant sang “Daddy’s Hands” for special music, and a tribute was shared by Sheldon Reddekopp. The ushers were Janet Dyck and Jennifer Sartison-Orsak. The Interment Service was held at Rosenhof Cemetery, Rosenhof, SK with John Reddekopp, John Heinrichs, Steven Neustaeter, Richard Fehr, John Janzen, and Arthur Neustaeter serving as pallbearers. Donations may be made in Cornie’s memory to the Cancer charity of the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
