Graham "Duke" Sangster
Graham Allison “Duke” Sangster, 88 of the Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Stellarton, passed away early November 8, 2015 in the Villa.
Born in New Glasgow in 1927, Duke was a son of the late Allison and Annie (Baker) Sangster.
Duke was a great handyman and avid hunter and fisherman. He loved working on and racing cars and could fix or build almost anything he set his mind to. His career started out at Eastern Bakeries, and his love for baking led to opening his own successful bakery, Duke’s Pastry Shop, Stellarton, with his former wife Helen (Betts) Sangster.
Duke was known for his sense of humour and he would light up telling stories about his many wild adventures. He loved animals, especially his dogs. All of his many nieces and nephews played a great role in his life, especially Fred and Aubrey who he helped raise from the time they were young boys. He was known to many as their “Favorite Uncle Duke”.
Surviving are his long time companion Eileen MacDonald and their loving grandchildren, his sister Lola Chisholm, a sister-in-law Belle(Hale)Sangster, nephews Fred (Karen) and Aubrey (Janice) Sangster, and nieces and nephews Brenda, Glenda, Robert, Margie, Debbie, Bobbie, Billy, Karen, Pat, Kenny, Jim, Carolyn, Janet, Linda, Susan, Grace, David, Kevin, and Ruth, as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and former wife Helen (Betts,) Duke was predeceased by a brother Robert, sisters-in-law Bertha (Buell), Anna( MacLeod), a brother Lloyd, a sister Mildred Dorrington , a brother-in-law Aubrey Dorrington, a brother-in-law Lloyd Chisholm.
Cremation has taken place.
The family will receive visitors from 1:00pm to 1:45pm Friday, Nov. 13, 2015 at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow followed by a memorial service at 2:00pm with Rev. Gary Tonks presiding. Burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery, New Glasgow.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Duke’s memory to the Pictou CountySPCA Shelter PO Box 786, New Glasgow, NS, B2H 5G2 or to the Valley View Villa, Riverton.
