Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: November 10th, 2015

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our much loved brother, uncle, brother-in-law, cousin and friend, Fr. Neil Reginald Currie.
Fr. Reg passed away Nov. 10, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Reg was the fourth son born May 5, 1931 to the late Michael and Mary (Finnell) Currie of Reserve Mines.
After graduating from St. FX University he attended Holy Heart Seminary in Halifax. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1961.
Fr. Reg served in many parishes throughout the diocese beginning as a curate at Sacred Heart, Sydney.
During the years following he was assigned to parishes in East Bay, Sydney River, Dingwall, New Waterford, Mabou, Inverness, Larry's River, Westville, River Bourgeois and Florence.
In the1960's his involvement in the youth groups - YCW and YCS was one of the highlights of his ministry.
Some of these people became lifelong friends. In later years Fr. Reg became the Spiritual Director for the Prayer Meetings at Our Lady of Fatima. This was an experience which gave him an opportunity to meet a
wonderful group of caring people. His involvement as Spiritual Director for the Al-Anon retreats was a "privilege" to him. He always looked forward to retreat week-ends where he was in the company of such great people. Until his illness he also volunteered at Loaves and Fishes, Sydney, every Friday.
Fr. Reg was a great family person who cared deeply for his siblings and his 22 nieces and nephews. He always kept in touch with everyone through visits or phone calls. He was the happiest when attending family gatherings either at hishome in "DunHuist", Islandview or someone else's home. Reg was the life line for our entire family.
Left to mourn are his sisters, Sister Carmelita Sisters of Charity, Halifax, Ursula (Michael) MacDonald, Reserve Mines, 22 nieces and nephews and their families, sisters-in-law, Cecelia Currie, Reserve Mines and Anna Currie, New Waterford. Also his cousins and close friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, John (Jake), Michael, Basil and by sisters, Theresa Amadio and Angie Campbell; brothers-in-law, Neil Amadio and Sandy Campbell and sister-in-law, Peggy Currie.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses of 4D, 4B and the palliative care unit at the Regional Hospital. Also thank you to the many priests, friends and relatives who visited him in the hospital. A
special thank you to Kay Moore for your love and support shown to Reg and the family.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 2-4 p.m. at Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. at St Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. in St Joseph's Church. The Most Reverend Brian Dunn, Rev. Daniel Boudreau and priests from the diocese will be officiating. The interment will be in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Loaves and Fishes, An Cala Unit or St Joseph's Cemetery.
