It is with great sadness we the family of Kenneth 'Skig' MacDonald announce his passing on Nov. 9, 2015, at the age of 86.
Born Aug. 11, 1929 in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Danny 'the dancer' and Mary 'Mame' MacDonald.
Skig was a very talented pianist, in his early years he performed all over the country entertaining people with his love of music. He was employed with Devco and worked in the pit as a miner for 35 years until his retirement, but still loved to play his piano. Throughout his short illness he would often ask for his old piano and could sometimes be heard humming one of his favourite Jazz tunes.
Skig is survived by his son, Eugene MacDonald; his grandchildren, Nadine (Danny) McDonald, Alberta, Hope (Ellis) Kelland and Eugene (Samantha) McDonald, Glace Bay, as well as his great-grandchildren, Mark, Kyle, Jamie, Jessica and Sophia, all of Glace Bay.
Besides his parents, Skig was predeceased by his brother, Everett MacDonald.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction Curry's Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Nov. 13, 2015 at 11 a.m. in Curry's Funeral Home chapel, 775 Main St., Glace Bay.
