It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Edna Agnes Gale, age 88, on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, at the Northside General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New Ross, N.S., on March 5, 1927, Edna was the daughter of the late Beacher and Clara (Lennihan) Veniot. She moved to North Sydney in 1944, where she raised her family and resided until her death. Edna was a devoted wife and loving mother who took great pride in caring for her family. She enjoyed spending time in Margaree with her family and friends and loved having her grandkids around. She enjoyed a good game of crib and her black tea. She welcomed all who came through the door with a hug and lots of smiles and laughter and if your timing was right you could enjoy some of her great cooking. Edna enjoyed the simple things in life “time with people” that passed from her children to her great great grandchildren and visiting family in the South Shore. She was an extraordinary woman and the heart of the family and will be missed forever.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in North Sydney.
She is survived by her son, Carter Gale (Ann), North Sydney; her daughter, Sharon Gorman (Raymond), North Sydney; by her six grandchildren, John (Denise), Diane (Craig), Wendy (Jody), Kim (Mick), Jerry (Bonnie), Patricia (Joe); her 13 great-grandchildren, Kevin (Stephanie), Steven (Marlene), Haley (Blaze), Devon, Dakota, Justin (Lisa), Kalle, Dylan, Jillian, Joey, Ryan, Matt, Luke and her two great-great-grandchildren, Ava and Hunter. She is also survived by her sister, Pauline Keizer of Lunenburg and her two half-brothers, Freddie Veniot and Douglas Veniot both of Lunenburg; half-sister, Carolyn (Roland) Bourgone, New Germany and many nieces and nephews
Edna was predeceased by her husband, John Gale; her son, John; daughter, Diane; great-grandson, Robert Tanner; her son-in-law, Gerald Gorman; her sister, Beatrice Doherty; her brothers, Herbert, Ottis and Murray Veniot and half-brother, Earl Veniot.
The family would like to thank Dr. O’Grady and the staff in the ER and the nurses on the 4th floor of the Northside General Hospital.
Visitation for Edna will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Monday from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church North Sydney with Rev. Julio Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery.
