James 'Kippy' Sharpe
Born In: Tower Road
Passed in: Birch Grove
Passed on: November 14th, 2015
It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, and uncle, James 'Kippy' Sharpe, age 65, on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015.
Born in 1950, Kippy grew up in Tower Road, the son of the late Maynard and Mella (MacLean) Sharpe.
He worked for 35 years for Nova Scotia Power, retiring in 2005, having held supervisory positions for most of his career.
Those who knew Kippy will remember his sense of humor and quick wit, his love of telling stories and his ability to make people laugh. Family was his greatest joy. He was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends and home was very often the centre of family gatherings.
Kippy was a member of the Cape Breton Antique and Custom Car Club, spending countless hours restoring and driving his collection of antique cars. A true handyman, Kippy was always engaged in a project.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Karen (MacDonald); his son Adam; daughter Elizabeth (Jason) Fraser; sisters, Pat Turner, Barb (Paul) Thorburn; nieces, Lisa Houghton and Keelin Thorburn; nephew James Thorburn; grandnieces, Kiara and Brooke Houghton and best friend Doug Sharpe.
Besides his parents, Kippy was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Tom and Marg MacDonald and brother-in-law Tom MacDonald.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Vernon Reid and Rev. Allan MacLellan will be held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay, on Wednesday at 1 p.m., followed by a reception in the church. A private family burial will take place after the reception in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Family flowers only please. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kippy’s memory may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Centre, whose amazing staff gave Kip such peace and comfort in his last days or to a charity of your choice.
