Rowena Rae

RAE, ROWENA OLIVE
It is with exceedingly heavy hearts that the family of Rowena Olive Rae wishes to share the news of her passing peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on November 15, 2015. Mom was the widow of John Warren Rae, and the mother of Jill Alexandra Rae. She was born December 12, 1918, the eleventh of thirteen children, to Frederick and Pearl (French) Frye, in Back Bay, N.B.
Mom spoke her mind but never judged the actions of others. She lived by the rules: "Take me as I am." and "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Mom enjoyed her home, welcoming friends and family, and was always ready for a good laugh. She was an avid Blue Jays fan.
Mom graduated from Blacks Harbour High School and then worked in the gasket room of Connors Bros. Sardine Factory to earn enough money to go into training. Mom proudly wore her cap and crisp white uniform as a 1943 graduate of the Saint John General Hospital School for Nurses, practicing her vocation at the "Old General" and at the "Regional" until the age of 69. She looked forward to the yearly alumni dinners, teas and grand reunions so that she and her classmates could relive fond memories of their training days. Her work ethic and devotion to her hard won career were beyond measure.
Mom is survived by Jill; her nephews Gary (Anita) Frye and Dwight (Dale) Frye; her nieces Joan Stackhouse, Nancy (William) Roberts, Charlene (Bev) Spofford, Janet (Ed) Welch, Laurie (Teddy) Wright, Betty Anne Afkari, Beverleigh Christensen and Rinda Frye; special cousin Phyllis French; her brother-in-law Charles Rae and his family (Jane, Beverley and Stephen); sister-in-law Mary Rae and her family (Gordon, Dawn and Judy); Lyn and Marilyn (daughters of sister-in-law the late Gretta Williams); and by her much loved companion Timmy.
Mom has been reunited with Johnny, her parents, her brothers (Neil, Roland, Carmen, Frederick, Millen, Donald and Taylor and their wives); her sisters (Lillian, Pearl, Edna, Edith and Heloise and their husbands); sisters-in-law Helen and Hilda Rae and Gretta Williams and brother-in-law Wendell Rae, into eternal peace.
If you wish to honor mom with a memorial donations, she would appreciate your support of the Saint John Animal Rescue League, the NBSPCA or Ca-r-ma.
To the staff of Palliative Care, you know who you are, the kindness, the smiles, the graciousness and the dignity shown to mom was appreciated so very much.
Mom - Always near, Forever dear.
