Malcolm "David" Estey

Malcolm "David" Estey

Estey, Malcolm “David” – 51, Murray Siding (Truro), passed away peacefully with his wife by his side after a courageous struggle with cancer on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Dave was the son of Dolores “Dee” (Brien) and the late Malcolm “Mac” Estey. Dave and his family moved to Nova Scotia when he was just a young boy, and he started school in Hilden and, soon moved to Truro, where he completed school. While still in high-school, he began work as a clothing salesman and Dave had many successes during his career which culminated with ownership of a very successful photo copy agency. Dave’s greatest achievements, however, came in his personal life as husband to Sylvia and stepfather (“Dude”) to Alex and Madison and in service to his community. Dave’s kindness and unquestioned support were inspirational for many people and it was clear that he found his calling in the service of his community and the love of his family. Dave was an enthusiastic Harley rider, and found brotherhood as a member of his motorcycle club. Over the past 15 years he and Sylvia travelled joyfully with friends all over Canada, the USA and in the Dominican Republic. Dave was also a greater music lover, finding a sense of self in the poetry of his chosen artists. Dave will be remembered by his family and many friends for his strength of character, his frank and honest approach to life and his unique brand of humour. He was loved by many and we will struggle to fill the “Dave-sized” hole left in our lives. Besides his wife Sylvia (Roberts) and his mother Dee, Dave is survived by his step-children, Alex and Madison d’Entremont, Murray Siding; brother, Steven (Anne) and their son Isai, Dartmouth; sister, Jane, Vancouver. Dave was predeceased by his father Malcolm. Cremation has taken place. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, November 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a memorial service on Friday November 20 at 11:00 a.m. all in the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Truro Homeless Outreach Society or the St. Vincent DePaul Society of Immaculate Conception Church. Live webcasting will begin at 10:58 a.m. (Atlantic Time) and is available along with condolences and donations at: www.ColchesterCommunity.com
