With broken hearts we announce the passing of Winston Jackson of Cavendish at St. Patrick's Mercy Home on November 22, 2015. Winston passed peacefully away surrounded by his family. Leaving to mourn, his wife Muriel (Fisher), son Jeffrey Jackson (Darlene) of St. John's, daughter Marylynn Cutten (Blair) of Bedford, Nova Scotia; his three grandchildren who were the joy of his life, Ellie Jackson (Mark), James Jackson and Miranda Cutten. Also leaving to mourn his brother, Eddie Jackson (Joanne), nephew Bryan (Brittany) and great-niece Skye. Winston is predeceased by his parents Edward and Mary, stepmother Gladys, father-in-law Hubert Fisher, mother-in-law Margaret Fisher, sister-in-law Alma Fisher and niece Michelle Jackson. Born in Cavendish, he moved to Toronto at a young age and lived there for 30 years. He began working at age 16 in the grocery store business in Toronto. He became a store manager by the age of 19. He met his wife, Muriel in 1961. In 1975, the family moved back to his beloved Cavendish, NL. He took a position as a school bus driver on the Trinity Shore. Known as "Mr. Winse", he delighted in transporting hundreds of children during his 20 year stint as a bus driver. He enjoyed and entertained them with his songs and nursery rhymes. Winston loved being a grandfather most; he talked tirelessly about Ellie, James and Miranda to anyone who would listen. They have fond memories of "poppy" skipping along with them, reading books, watching movies, and having great belly laughs. His other passions were classic cars and music. Winston was knowledgeable on every old car and its parts. His love of music was evident as well. He enjoyed his wife Muriel playing piano with tears rolling down his cheeks. He was a great choir member with a wonderful singing voice. He was happiest with everyone together, enjoying a great meal and sharing a few stories and laughs. His motto was, "Don't worry and look after yourselves". His faith in God sustained him to the very end; he reminded us that "he had an understanding with the man above". We are truly grateful that he departed pain-free. Pop we know you are up there, most likely conducting the choir of angels. We want to thank the staff of 1 North at St. Patrick's Home. The care, compassion and support you bestowed on him was outstanding. You truly made it his home away from home. We are also truly grateful for all the calls, texts and visits from relatives and friends during his time at St. Patrick's Home. Thank you for the support from Warren's Funeral Home and Reverend Nancy who was truly there for us in our time of grief. Visitations to take place at Warren's Funeral Home in Dildo, NL on Monday, November 23, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-9 pm. A celebration of his life will take place at St. Andrew's Church in Whiteway on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 1:30 pm.
