SMITH, Beatrice Louise, 71, Shag Harbour, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 16, 2015 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital, with her loving husband and mother by her side. She was born on McNutts Island on June 29, 1944, daughter of the late George Gribble and Myrtle (Goulden) (Gribble) Demings. Beatrice was a loving, caring and generous person and will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends. She was educated at Gunning Cove School and Shelburne Regional High School, graduating with honors, receiving several awards and a Bursary to the Nova Scotia Teacher’s College, Truro, graduating from there, winning a three year Scholarship to Mount St. Vincent University, Halifax, where she received her B.A/B.E.D, and taught several years in Barrington Consolidated and ERMES, retiring early due to illness. Bea had many talents, such as painting, ceramics, playing guitar, and wrote numerous poems, short stories. Her desire in life was to write books for children, and was working on one when she became ill with cancer in 2013. She loved pets, friends and family, scrabble, music and travelling. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 40 years, Dennis; mother, Myrtle Demings; aunt, Margaret Goulden, Calgary; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by grandparents, James and Bertha (Snow) Goulden; father, George Gribble, step-father, Enos Demings; aunts, Susan and Hattie; uncles, Arthur, Dexter, David, Kia, Burns, Aubrey, Martin and Vernon. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson`s Funeral Homes. No visitation by request. A memorial service will take place on Friday, November 27 at 2 P.M. in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne with Pastor Cindy Dunnett officiating. Interment in Carleton Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Diabetes Association , Voluntary Order of Nurses or charity of choice.
