It is with great sadness that the family of James Gordon Sherriff age 77 of Amherst announce his passing on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS.
Born Amherst, NS he was a son of the late John N. and Mary (MacKeigan) Sherriff.
In his young years Jim worked at Tenants Bottling in Amherst and for a few years worked at Colchester Regional Hospital as a cook, Abby Wines and the Pop Shop all in Truro.
Jim was a chef by trade and worked at the Colonial Inn, Fort Cumberland Hotel and the Wandlyn Inn in Amherst as well as the Disco.
He retired due to illness in 1992 from Springhill Penitentiary where he taught cooking for 10 years.
Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Greta LeBlanc, two sons James of Amherst and John (Rosa) of Burlington, ON, one daughter Julianna Sherriff (Branko Mizerit) of Halifax, several grandchildren and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by a sister Sandra Handspiker.
At Jim’s request there will not be any visitation or funeral service.
