Marcus Tessem

Passed on: November 18th, 2015

Marcus Foster Tessem, born in Swift Current on March 19, 1971, left us to begin a new journey on November 18th, 2015. He had a peaceful passing at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Beloved son of Foster and Maureen Tessem, Marcus was a loving and devoted father to his young son, Jonah. He also leaves Jonah's mother, Farzana Karim, his grandmother Ida Tessem, close Aunt Kathleen Fortner and family, special Uncle Wendell Cunningham, Uncles Edgar and Shaun and eleven cousins. Others gone before him include his grandfather Harold Tessem, his grandparents George and Agnes Cunningham and his Uncle Cedric Cunningham. Those of us who knew and loved Marcus as a youngster recognized the boy he was in the man that he became: energetic, interested in every aspect of the world around him, always able to find or create humour, passionate about every aspect of being alive. He was a reader with an enviable book collection that he shared freely, a published author, a child with an imagination so vivid that those in his presence were made to feel like Jedi warriors aligned with the bright forces against darkness, or like clever and brave young hobbits walking into Mordor in order to defeat impossibly powerful adversaries. Marcus retained the enthusiastic imagination of his youth into adulthood and passed it on to those high school students he taught in Clavet Prairie Spirit High School, as well as those that many may have treated as strangers. He was a presence that could not be ignored and seldom failed to elicit a smile just for having encountered the enthusiasm with which he lived.
Death will never take what Marcus gave to those who knew him. A soul as playfully active and creative as his doesn't die. It just gets passed on to others. We who knew you are grateful to have made you part of who will we be going forward. Love lives on, Marcus. So will you.
