LANGLEY, FRANKLIN
Franklin McVay Langley, age 95, of St. Andrews, NB passed away peacefully at Camp Hill Veterans Hospital in Halifax, NS. Born February 3, 1920 in Brockway, NB, son of the late Robert Lorenzo and Susan Elizabeth (McVay) Langley.
After serving in the RCAF from 1940 to 1945 he returned home and began his career as a master carpenter, eventually being employed by the Biological Station in St Andrews, NB., where he worked until retiring in 1982.
Frank was a member of Cherry Mountain Masonic Lodge, Harvey, NB, Past Master of St Marks Lodge, St Andrews, NB, Past District Deputy Grand Master, Grand Lodge of NB., member of the Wesley United Church serving on various boards, as well as a member of the church choir. He served on St Andrews Town Council, the Charlotte County Housing Association, was a 60 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion and strong supporter of the St Andrews Arts Council.
Survived by his two children, daughter, Barbara (Bill) Vye of Bedford, NS, son, David (Grace Gower) Langley of Alberton, PEI. Six grandchildren, Erika Vye (Steve Brimm), Copper Harbour Michigan, Dustin (Gina Bottamini) Vye of New York City, Breanna Langley (George Belanger) Halifax, NS, Kathleen Keating (Scott Clarke), Saint John, NB, Laura Keating (John Carroll), Washington, DC., Anna Keating (Felipe Bustos), Saskatoon, SK. Two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Coulter Vye of NYC, several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Helen A. Langley and sister, Eugenia Josephine (Langley) Clarke.
"Dad" never forgot his roots and deep love of "the farm" in Brockway where he was born and raised and visited often. He had a never ending repertoire of stories he loved to share with family and friends around the kitchen table recalling his younger days on the farm, in the logging camps and on the river drives. He loved meeting and talking to people and learning about their roots which sparked a keen interest in genealogy.
Resting at the Wesley United Church, William Street, St Andrews, NB. from where the funeral service will be held on Friday, November 27, 2015 at 2:00 PM. Visiting hours will be held at the church on Thursday, November 26, 2015 from 7 to 9 PM. Masonic and Legion Services will also take place during this time and all are welcome. Interment at St Andrews Rural Cemetery, St. Andrews, NB.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St Andrews Arts Council- Helen A Langley Memorial Fund or a charity of one's choice.
