Born: February 3rd, 1924

Passed on: November 23rd, 2015

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alex MacIntosh in his 92nd year on Nov. 23, 2015.
He was born in Glace Bay on Feb. 3, 1924, the son of Mary Ann and John T. MacIntosh.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 70 years, Carmie and his grieving family - his son, Bernie (Raylene); daughter, Sandi Cummings and daughter, Lynne (Lyn) McDiarmid. He will be greatly missed by his dear grandchildren, Noah and Grayson MacIntosh, Jonathan Cummings, Zachary Martin, Grayson McDiarmid and Kelsey Rafuse as well as five great-granddaughters.
Alex worked for many years for the Town of Glace Bay, served as a Town Councilor and was well known for his lovely tenor voice in various dance bands over the years. He was also a very accomplished tennis player and served on the board of the local tennis club. He was a tireless volunteer at the Glace Bay Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club and was a well-known and recognized figure as he walked many miles through the town, his smile and friendly manner a cheerful and familiar presence. The family would like to thank the staff at the Glace Bay Hospital for their care in the latter stages of his life.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the care of Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 10 a.m. at St Anne’s Church. The Rev Leo Boone will be officiating. The interment will be at St Anthony’s Cemetery.
