WILSON, ROSCOE ARNOLD
Roscoe A. Wilson, 81, of Moncton, with his loving family by his side, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Monday, November 23, 2015. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Bliss and Gladys (Wilbur) Wilson.
Roscoe attended Moncton High School and was in the graduating class of 1952. He then attended Business College before beginning his career at King Sports. In later years he worked as a Tax Professional with H & R Block and Tax Choice.
Roscoe was a left-handed pitcher and member of the Lewisville Keefe Cubs Junior baseball team from 1952–1954. During these years, the team won NB Junior Championships (1952–1954), NB–PEI Junior Championships (1952–1954) and Maritime Junior Championships (1953–1954). At the age of 18 Roscoe was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was a competitive men’s curler and member of the Moncton Beaver Curling Club. Roscoe won two Provincial Championships in mixed curling and attended National championships in the 1970’s (with wife, Diane, Johnny Milburn and Maryann Milburn). He was an avid golfer and Past President of The Moncton Golf & Country Club and was a member of other golf clubs in the Greater Moncton area. He was a member of the NB Sports Hall of Fame and the Moncton Sports Wall of Fame. Sports and family time were Roscoe’s life, especially socializing with his friends and spending time with his family.
Roscoe will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Diane (McManus), of Moncton; children, Christine Wilson of Halifax, NS, Cheryl Higgins (Rod) of Moncton and Bruce Wilson (Carla) of Airdrie, AB; grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Carey of Middleton, NS, Benjamin Higgins (MacKenzie) of Cochrane, AB, Emily Higgins (Dave McConnell) of Halifax, NS, Erin and Xavier Wilson of Airdrie, AB; great-grandchildren, Landon Carey, Tate and River Higgins; brother, Kenneth Wilson (Shirley); sister-in-law, Susan Pellerin (Nap); several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Roscoe was predeceased by his brothers, Clive and Orville Wilson.
A gathering to celebrate Roscoe’s life will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home Reception Centre, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Thursday, November 26, 2015 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Interment will be held at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Roscoe’s memory to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital (Oncology Unit) would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences at
