It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Mitzi Copan, on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015 in the Wolfville Nursing Home, at the age of 93.
Mitzi, from New Waterford, Cape Breton, was born on April 16, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Horwath) Keusch.
While working at Hoffmann's grocery store in New Waterford she met Mannie, the love of her life. They were married on Nov. 26, 1945. Mom introduced Dad to dancing and skating and they enjoyed these activities together for many years. Another passion they shared was spending time at Lake Ainslie, where we vacationed as a family, and where Mom and Dad relaxed in their retirement.
Mom was always thinking of the other person. She will be remembered as a kind and loving woman, a devoted wife and mother. Mom cherished her times with her beloved granddaughter, Heather and the new light in her life, her great-grandson, Aidan.
Mitzi is survived by her daughters, Patricia Suddons (John), Beverly White (Bruce English), Cheryl White (Robert); granddaughter, Heather Rose (Graham); great-grandson, Aidan Rose.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Mannie, a son in infancy and brother, Peter.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass of celebration for Mitzi will take place Thursday, Nov. 26 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Joe Gillis officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, River Ryan, where she will be laid to rest with our Dad. A luncheon will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford. Arrangements are under the care of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King St., Windsor, N.S. and V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
