MCPHERSON, DAVID R.
Lutes Mountain, NB – David R. McPherson, husband of Lois (Smith), of Lutes Mountain, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 after a brief illness and celebrated his wife’s birthday in heaven.
Born at home on Lutes Mountain, NB on March 12, 1926, he was the son of the late George and Jessie (Lutes) McPherson.
He showed his strong desire to work and take risks by farming and lumbering in the 1950’s and operating Mountain Construction from 1957 to 2004. He and Lois shared many travel adventures to the Canadian west, Europe, Florida, Arizona, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean. Although he had the confidence to tell people what he really thought, his sense of humour will be fondly remembered. Many a meal was spent laughing about animal and people adventures. Friends will remember Dad for his red tam and especially for how he could get things stuck! He was a heavy equipment operator extraordinaire and in later years he transferred this skill to his golf cart. He is our role model of family love by the devoted way he cared for Mom after her stroke.
He is survived by our special friend, Florine Reid, his daughters, Debbie McPherson (Don MacAulay), Beverley (Jack) Christie, Peggy (Gary) Byers, and son David G (Kim) McPherson and daughter-niece, Jo-Ann (Don) Adams, as well as nine grandchildren, Diane Gillespie (David Kelly), Nancy (Jason) Bastarache; Amanda and Alexander (Sandy) Christie; Patrick (Shani Gregoire) Byers and Jessica (Brad) Cormier; Erin, David D. and Heather McPherson; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his devoted wife of 54 years, Lois (Smith), and two sisters Elizabeth Thomsen (2011) and Joyce Shantz (1949).
Resting at Fair Haven Funeral Home and Cemetery with visitation on Friday, November 27, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, at Fair Haven Funeral Home at 10:30am with Rev. Gordon Horsman officiating. Interment to take place at a later date in the Birch Hill Cemetery, Lutes Mountain.
Donations in Dad’s memory may be made to the Birch Hill Cemetery or a memorial of the donor’s choice. The family would like to thank the staff at the McNair Manor for their kindness and tender care of Dad. Special thanks, as well, to his gang at Tim Horton’s.
Arrangements entrusted to Fair Haven Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton, (506) 852-3530. A book of condolences may be signed at www.fairhavenmemorial.ca
