Mary 'Mae (MacAulay) Matheson passed away at Ivany Place on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015.
Born in 1925 in Cape Breton, she was the daughter of loving parents, Malcolm and Annie MacAulay of Cape Breton.
As well as her parents, Mae was predeceased by her husband, Eric Matheson, and her Pearo family, sisters, Beatrice and Ella, and brothers, Daniel, Harold, Sam, George and Robert.
Mae was married 72 years to the love of her life, Eric, and raised a loving family including five children, Malcolm (Margaret), Kenneth (Dawn), Linda, Colleen (Alan) and Gordie (Neala); 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Mae was a homemaker devoted to her husband and children, and instilled her loving values in her children while she and her husband were stationed at various armed forces bases in Canada, later settling in Halifax. Mae enjoyed music, curling, bowling, crokinole, and spending time on the islands of Cape Breton and PEI with family and friends. She will be fondly remembered for the best tea biscuits 'ever' and being a gentle, kind and loving woman. Mae's family would like to thank the loving and caring staff of Ivany Place, for the care and compassion shown to our parents over the years and, especially, during Mom's final days.
Visitation will be held at 3-6 pm Friday, Nov. 27 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, where a service will follow at 6 p.m. Interment will take place 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28 in Hardwood Hill Cemetery, Sydney, Cape Breton.
