It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael "Mike" Joseph Melanson, of Pinetree, Pictou County, at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, Nov. 26, 2015. Born July 5, 1951, Mike was a son of Anne (Cooke) Melanson and the late Milton Melanson. He was a welder having worked for over 40 years at his trade, most recently in Calgary, Alberta, moving back to Pictou County this year. Mike excelled at all sports most notably fastball where he was an all star pitcher playing on many provincial teams. He enjoyed hockey, hunting, fishing and loved a good game of crib especially with good friend Joe O'Donnell. In earlier years he was a minor softball coach in Stellarton. Surviving are his partner and soul mate, JoAnne Robson, Pinetree; his sons, Michael (Anna), Auburn; Victor (Jaclyn), Westville; Kelly (Tracey),Ontario; grandchildren, Madison, Jessee, Logan, Luca, Kaleb, Gracie and former wife, Cindy (MacBeth) Melanson. Also surviving are sisters, Sharon (Barry), New Glasgow; Donna (Jim), Stellarton; Charmaine (Kim), Chester; Kristal (Dave), Fredericton, NB; brothers, Clary (Janet), Pictou; Ken (Shirley), Eureka; Bernard John (BJ), Moncton, NB; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Besides his father he was predeceased by an infant brother, Andrew. As requested by Mike, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the direction of McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov 30 at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Father Don Boudreau officiating. All friends are welcome, Reception to follow. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or perform an act of kindness in his memory.
