Passed on: November 30th, 2015

On Nov. 30, 2015 our loving mother and grandmother passed away at Harbourstone Enhanced Care in Sydney. Rose Marie Baldwin (nee Blois) was born in Glace Bay on Dec. 22, 1940 to Alfred and Christina (nee MacPhee) Blois.
Rose grew up in Glace Bay and loved going to the dances with her sisters. That is where she met the love of her life, Kevin. They married on August 8, 1966 and started their life together in New Waterford.
Rose’s greatest achievement was her family. She took great pride in watching her children grow and become successful. Rose was a dedicated mother, a wonderful caregiver and always put others before herself. She would drop anything at a moment’s notice to help someone in need.
Rose was a beautiful baker; her grandchildren will fondly remember her Christmas Fruit Roll and Easter Bunny cakes. She loved music, sewing and doing laundry. Rose was willing to try anything once; even camping with four small children in a trailer. Her favourite movie was The Sound of Music. Rose loved to watch all types of sports, especially hockey. Her favourite teams were the Montreal Canadians and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Rose is survived by her sons, Kevin (Yvonne) and Robert (Melissa) and her daughters, Dawn (Robert) and Cheryl. Her grandchildren, Olivia, Gregory, Bridget, Nicholas, Maria, Katlyn, Jessica, Emma and Fulton, and her little darling great-granddaughter, Zoey Rose. Rose is also survived by her brothers, Reggie (Glenda), Jackie (Sylvia), and Lawrence (Colleen) and by her sisters, Sylvia (Joseph White), Eleanor (Graham Brownwell), Rita (Keith Mulvey) and Linda (Gerry Croney).
She was predeceased by her husband, Kevin; her brothers, Alfred and Robert; her sister, Dorothy Podgurski and her son-in-law, Sean Hogan.
Cremation has taken place. A private funeral service, officiated by Deacon Leo Penney, will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, with burial to follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery. A luncheon will take place at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at:www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
Special thanks go out to staff at Mira Bay in Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility for the great care and compassion shown to our mother.
Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia and the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Rose never said goodbye, she always said, “bye for now”. Bye for now Rose/Mom, you will live on in our hearts and memories.
